Couldn't help but notice that this group has become inactive =(
If you guys are still interested in joining composing competitions, join the group "Music Battle!"
Follow this link: http://musescore.com/groups/contests
We start a new Battle every month so now is the perfect time to join!
Hope to see you there!
This one I decided should be a Music Battle inspired competition, since we almost had a war and I think we should be prepared. This time, we have the same rules as Music Battle, which means two or more sides, everybody votes, admins make next competition, and we have 5 pages of discussion! Our theme, I guess, its been so quiet, is..........................................................
STEALTH VS. OVERLORD (that guy that doesn't use stealth, he just wrecks everybody up)
Also, you can choose peaceful if you wanted to incorporate both ideas into your music. May y'all do your best!
It's finally here (the third competition, if you didn't know already)! This evaluation's theme will beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:
ORCHESTRAL CINEMATIC COMPOSITION OR ARRANGEMENTS (if you didn't know that either already)! The deadline will be from April 29th - May 25th!
Composing discretion is advised. Thank you and have a good day.
This is where I post the winners of the competitions.
1. Ryuujin Jokka ~ Videogame Arrangements - Trombone Quartet Medley
2. Teesee2 ~ Jazz Transcriptions/Arrangements - Sleigh Ride
3. Nintendo DS ~ Orchestral Cinematic Compositions/Arrangements - Robocalypse
Congratulations to all the winners on the board and special thanks to everyone who participated!
Unlike Music Battle, this competition group has a couple of differences: There is no sides, the amount of songs you want to compete with in the group are unlimited, and next battle there will be 3 members who do not have to compete, but they will judge for a unanimous vote. Anybody who wants to judge can just comment in this discussion. Also, if anybody wants to have a change to something, just post that too in this discussion. Hmm... oh yeah, if you want sides, there will be, just a special day that I feel like doing it. Or that might be a vote for too... The group is still young.
I just wanted to let you know that I am shifting my focus for the next month or so from producing small 4 or 5 minute compositions to working on one large project. I am doing something new here, and hope to inspire some of you to try the same thing. We all dream of being able to compose a soundtrack for a film, but it is very hard to get that opportunity, much less practice for that.
What I have done is create the plot to a film in my mind. Basically I spent a few days thinking about it, developing a plot, characters, story, etc. Mainly I tried to visualize it, take down notes that probably only I will understand, and basically make it so I can SEE the movie, even though it doesn't exist. Now comes the fun part.
I started composing a soundtrack to said invisible movie, as I call it, with staff text above all of the notes which explain what is going on, what is being said, what the scene is like, etc. It is sort of like reading a book with a soundtrack, but organised so that you only can read what is happening as the music plays. It is far from finished, needs a lot of refining, and I only have about 5 minutes done so far. I would like to compose about an hour's worth here, and make it into a video score where the text comes up rather than using staff text.
To give you guys a general idea of what I am doing, I have used CamStudio to record my screen as I played it. Just watch the 5 minute video, and see what I mean by an invisible video.
PLEASE TRY TO VISUALIZE THE MOVIE AS I GIVE IT, (mainly starting with Scene 1)... KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS FAR FAR FAR FROM UNFINISHED, AND I PLAN ON FINISHING THE ENTIRE PIECE AS A ROUGH DRAFT, THEN EDITING IT. THIS IS NOT MEANT AS A PLEASE CRITIQUE THE SONG... THAT COMES LATER WHEN THE ROUGH DRAFT IS DONE! RIGHT NOW I ONLY WANT FEEDBACK ON THE GENERAL IDEA!
(This song needs headphones and the volume turned all the way up...)
DOWNLOAD ONLY... DO NOT WATCH IN BROWSER, THE QUALITY IS HORRIBLE!!!!!
Hi, for our first competition, this will be the first topic:
Video game music.
This competition will officially start when there are at least 3 other members on board, and from there you would have a month and a half to arrange those wonderful themes. Thanks guys!
This might change as we go on. Anyway, for all of you in Music Battle group, the rules are similar. When the deadline hits, every person gets one vote on songs. The length of time to vote will be 5 days. You may not vote on your own song. You may not create another account to vote for yourself. Doing so will be penalized by removing you from the group, your music is not a participant for the competition, and we look down on you in shame. That should be it, but any suggestions to change is certainly welcome. Thanks!
