You don’t have to be a Deltarune fan to appreciate this ripping take on the song ‘Raise Up Your Bat’ from Chapter 3 of the series. Guitarist RichaadEB teamed up with Caleb Hyles and Little V. Mills to create a killer cover of the song with shredding guitars, slamming drums, and soaring vocals.
The original, composed by Toby Fox, sticks with the 8-bit sound on the game’s soundtrack to lean into the vintage arcade feel. Its rockin’ feel is set up with a riff in B minor that ascends a minor third to D before descending chromatically to return to B. The half-step drops add a sinking feeling that’s a staple of heavy music. Fox’s use of rhythm helps to build tension as ostinato riffs and synth stabs evolve into flurries of sixteenth notes.
RichaadEB and the gang opted to open the song up a bit, adding a guitar solo that he admits is ‘not canon.’ And if you’re a guitar player following along, you may notice he’s tuned a whole step down.
Rock out with the trio, then follow along with Xiloscient‘s transcription of the song.
